THE LIGHT OF GOD IS GOOD

» by in: BIBLE,LIFE

God saw that the light was good, and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and He called the darkness “night.” Evening came, and then morning: the first day. — Genesis 1:4-5

God spoke, and there was LIGHT. The black shroud of the cloud over the watery earth now lightened like the dusk of evening.

The light, not yet clear and bright, must be separated from the night. And that is GOOD! Without the light, how can there be sight, or any understanding of what God has made good and right?

The gift of light opens the way to knowing the truth of what is true and right. As light must be separated from darkness to see clearly, so truth must be sifted from lies and falsehood.

If there is GOOD, is there also evil? Isn’t EVIL the use of what is GOOD to do what is hurtful and wrong? Greed and lust and pride twist the gifts of light and truth to defy the love of the God who gave them to us.

Twisted truth has separated us from the blessed Presence of the only God who is Himself light and life and love and was personified as the God-man in Jesus Christ, in truth the very Son of God.

God chose to separate the darkness from the light while still using it for our good. The darkness of the night will give time for rest, renewal and refreshment.

It will help us count our days and months and years. And as it contrasts with the beauty of the light, it will help us see more clearly the true character of the lies and twisted half-truths of violence waiting to trap us in the darkness.

Without the warmth of the love-light of God, our hearts will be forever darkened within us. Refusing His light, we hide from Him and stumble in the darkness of this world’s self-worship, violence and pride.

When the circumstances of life are dark, when discouragement and despair bury the soul under the deep waters, when the stars are hidden of their light, and the sunlight of the day seems no brighter than the night—then the Spirit of God hovers over the cast-down and broken-hearted.

Before life can exist, light must flood the earth: “Let there be light!”

Before I can have new life in God: “Let there be light!”

Before I can know the love of God: “Let there be light!”

Before I can delight in the joy of the Lord: “Let there be light!”

Before I can experience the peace of God: “Let there be light!”

Speaking softly to our hearts, He who is Light and Life and Love draws us into His Presence to be cleansed by His sprinkled blood—blessed circumstance, and good indeed!
