A Hymn of Praise

» by in: LIFE

Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let the earth hear His voice!

Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let the people rejoice!

Give praise to the Father! Give praise to the Son!

Give praise to the Spirit, The great Three-in-One!

Those words come with a tune that expresses exuberant joy and thanksgiving. For some time I have been rejoicing in its words and music although the title and the author remain unknown to me.

This song has been in my heart and mind each morning as I become aware of the new day. So why not explore the reasons for the great joy, peace, and security it confirms to me? Do you mind?

Who Is This God?

If you, dear reader, are an agnostic or an atheist, you may be thinking right now, “Why should I read this stuff? This guy is just a hypocrite who pretends to be happy all the time!”

I assure you, it has nothing to do with pretentions or Positive Thinking; it is for real even when I may be experiencing disappointment, disaster, disease, or the death of a child or a spouse.

If you are someone who has placed your trust in the One who is the Creator of All, you have most likely experienced His peace in the midst of trouble or pain and know of what I speak.

If you do not know Him, you have nothing in your experience with which to compare the peace He will give to a Believer in the midst of grief and heartache—as we read in Philippians chapter 4, verses 4, 6 and 7:

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! . . . Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Jesus Is The Prince of Peace

Until you have experienced His peace for yourself, you may think that this is nothing more than ancient myths and stories. But you can put it to the test, you know.

Over many centuries, millions have testified to the truth of their own experience of the peace of God, through Jesus, the Prince of Peace.

If you have never asked God for anything, perhaps now is the time? Ask Jesus to give you His peace, and then you too can know the joy of giving praise and thanks to God.

Jesus Is Our Peace

So you are thinking, there must be something more . . . something else I have to do . . . or you simply can’t pray to a God you can’t see, or a Jesus you don’t believe in.

And of course you are right that there must be more: you must want to ask His forgiveness with all your heart. But until you ask, and mean it, you are still missing out on real joy and peace.

If you are concerned about where you stand before God, you can search for Him. If you are concerned, then know that He loves you and is looking for you while you are looking for Him:

For He Himself is our peace . . . (Ephesians 2:14), and again, For God so loved the world  that whosoever [________________ put your name here] believes in Him [Jesus] will have everlasting life. (John 3:16).
